The Dehradun History Tour

Varanasi
Everyday

Take a deep-dive in to the history of Dehradun and understand how the Britishers thought this town could become the Eton of the East.

We begin the tour at Rajpur, a township older than the city of Dehradun. At Rajpur, from a vantage point, we can look at the Geography of the Dun, a cup shaped valley. From here we drive past Astley Hall and learn about Fredrick Pahadi Wilson, the Welsh Raja of the valley of Harsil, near Gangotri. Several such interesting characters have come to Dehradun and made it home. We visit the Durbar of Guru Ram Rai that speaks of the curious friendship between Aurangzeb and a Sikh Guru, and gives the city its name, Dehra. From here, we drive to the Forest Research Institute (FRI) and understand how the British thought this town could become the Eton of the East. From the FRI, we visit the now abandoned tea gardens and learn how Dehra attracted so many travellers and entrepreneurs in its past.
