Dhanpat Rai Srivastav, better known by his pen-name Munshi Premchand, was born in the village Lamhi, 5kms away from Varanasi, on this very day 135 years back. A novel writer, story writer and dramatist who used his pen to make people aware of the malpractices prevalent in the society, he has been referred to as the “Upanyas Samrat” (“Emperor among Novelists”) of Hindi Literature. 79 years after his demise, his birthday is still celebrated with great ferver in his village
